George Church may be called into CRISPR patent fight
The latest news from the Thunderdome, otherwise known as the CRISPR patent landscape, is that the University of Carlifornia, Berkeley, would like to subpoena geneticist George Church.
STAT News report that the university has submitted the request to the US patent office, arguing that the HGP2-Write pioneer will undermine “key assertions” made by the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard in the dispute. The Broad has been awarded 13 patents on the CRISPR system, which are being contested by UC Berkeley.
As yet, there have been no statements from George Church, UC Berkeley or the Broad Institute.
