We’re all guilty of attempting to self-diagnose using the internet. And most of us have probably received a highly improbable and wildly inaccurate diagnosis. In this short video clip from Cure Today, Ann Culkin, R.N., O.C.N, an oncology nurse at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, discusses the importance of patient-centered care in the age of the internet.

Ann’s advice to worried patients is to avoid getting a consultation with “Dr Google”, because they can often create worry and fear. She advocates a personal approach to treatment and helping patients to understand their individual diagnoses. “We go back oftentimes to the patients, and keeping that patient-centered care key”, she explains.
